Lessening the Impact of Radiation

By Jordan Miller;

“Be prepared!” “Levels of radiation could dwarf Chernobyl!” “Nuclear reactor meltdown imminent!”  These are the types of messages (among many other similar headlines) that are being broadcast to millions worldwide. Ever since the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit the north-eastern coast of Japan on March 11, 2011, we have been bombarded with messages of doom. It was and is an unfortunate tragedy that took the lives of many innocent people. My heart and sincerest sympathies go out to all those who lost their lives and to the family members and friends who have to cope with their losses.  I am forever grateful for the hard work of all those who have helped in the rescue efforts and to everyone who have risked their lives to be on the front line. Sometimes it hard to stay positive with all these negative headlines, however, we must persevere and remain positive whenever/wherever possible so that we can facilitate the healing process.

We must realign with love and not be afraid, for fear will propagate selfishness and negativity. Let us focus first on those who need help the most. The people of Japan need our help. We can make a difference in the world if we become more aware by focusing our energies on the people of Japan as a first step. This being said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we shouldn’t take precaution by mitigating some of our exposure to radiation, but we shall do so in a logical manner that exemplifies dignity and compassion for others. Let us look at some of the things you can do right now to help alleviate some of the potential effects of radiation exposure on your health.

Alleviating the Effects

1. Iodine/Iodide:  As most of you are aware, there has been quite the hype surrounding the availability of potassium iodide (an isolated inorganic compound). In light of the mass hysteria that has been released from the media outlets, and regurgitated several times over, the lack of accessibility or scarcity of potassium iodide has become a problem for many. This rather common substance which is generally stockpiled by the governments for reasons such as a nuclear catastrophe has essentially dried up because of such a high demand.  This may be due to some people stockpiling the pills as a precaution. In any event, potassium iodide, as many do not know, is not a substance that should be used for preventative measures against radiation.  In fact, Potassium Iodide shall only been used for those who are in direct contact with the radiation at its source. Potassium Iodide’s main purpose is to remove accumulated uranium deposits from the thyroid because the thyroid acts as a magnet to many heavy metals, especially uranium and other similar radioactive materials. In this case, Potassium Iodide pills should only be used as a last resort for many living away from the epicentre (Japan). If you’re looking for something much less toxic, as a preventative measure, I would suggest taking Kelp (a form of sea vegetable or seaweed). This will not only protect your thyroid, but will provide your body with an array of other essential nutrients – less the side effects that you may get from consuming inordinate amounts of Potassium Iodide. In any event, Iodine (in its natural state) is certainly better for you in protecting your thyroid; however, it is not the only substance we should be considering as we have many other parts/organs that need primary care as well.

2. Bentonite Clay: This is an ideal product/substance that everyone should have in their cupboard; a perfect binding agent that has been used by many indigenous cultures over hundreds of years. Its main purpose it to cleanse the intestines by absorbing many of the positively charged substances that can be bound to the walls of our intestines. Essentially, Bentonite Clay is negatively charged. It therefore attracts many positively charged elements in our intestines through electrical attraction, including heavy metals (uranium, mercury, lead), as well as viruses and bacteria.  Bentonite Clay is one of the most effective natural intestinal detoxifying agents available to us. In considering preventative methods against radiation, Bentonite Clay should be at the top of your list.  Not only has it been successfully used by several indigenous cultures, but it has been observed that many animals in the wild are drawn to clay deposits by instinct. Many varieties of birds have been observed licking the clay as part of their everyday diet as well as rolling in it to get relief from injuries.

Other chelating methods/substances include:

Chlorella: a blue - green algae that helps facilitate the detoxification of heavy metals;
Milk Thistle: to assist in the maintenance of a clean liver;
Burdock Root: to ensure that the blood remains clean;
Zeolite: has been shown to remove depleted uranium from the body.

Boost your immune system

Your best protection is a good defense- or a t least that’s what I believe. By boosting your immune system with essential nutrients such as Vitamin D, astragalus, medicinal mushrooms such as reishi and shitake, cat’s claw, Echinacea, and rose hips, you can be certain that the effects form radiation exposure will be substantially lessened. A good probiotic supplement may also be of use as it will help your body maintain a healthy intestinal lining. In addition to the substances noted above, various other supplements can provide additional support, including, vitamin C, coenzyme Q 10, resveratrol, astaxanthin (from krill or other sources), and beta-carotene. Of course many fruits and vegetables, including superfoods, provide the body with significant amounts of antioxidants and other important micronutrients.

In all, keep your diet light, fresh and raw as possible. By doing this, your body will remain clean and as a result, will assist in the detoxification process much more easily; therefore making it difficult for toxins, such as uranium, to store within your body.

Ultimately, staying positive is your best defense.  Not only will this benefit your health, but it will also have a positive impact on the world as a whole.

  1. Hey Guiding Instincts!

    Eating a raw diet is my best "defense" in safeguarding against radiation poisoning.

  2. Thanks for your comment. We agree. Eating as clean and light as possible will certainly help in the detoxifying process. Follow your instincts
