Who Will You Trust?

By Kyla Miller, R.H.N.;

Most of us at one time or another have put trust in doctors and the hospitals that are supposed to take care of us. However, the World Health Organization has just released a statement admitting that millions of people die each year from medical errors and infections linked to health care, and that going into a hospital is far riskier than flying.

Liam Donaldson, the World Health Organization’s envoy for patient safety says “If you were admitted to a hospital tomorrow in any country… your chances of being subjected to an error in your care would be something like 1 in 10. Your chances of dying due to an error in health care would be 1 in 300. This compared with a risk of dying in an air crash of about 1 in 10 million passengers shows that health care, generally worldwide, still has a long way to go”.

The United Nations agency release a statement saying; “Of every 100 hospitalized patients at any given time, 7 in developed and 10 in developing countries will acquire at least on health-care associated infection”. Canada’s “health-care-associated infection” rate, at 11.6 per cent, is one of the worst among developed countries, according to the Report on the Burden of Endemic Heath Care-Associated Infection Worldwide 2011.

The World Health Organization’s spokesperson went on to say that “each year in the United States, 1.7 million infections are acquired in hospitals, leading to 100,000 deaths”.

If this doesn’t send a shockwave of consciousness through our society, what will? How long will we continue to place our lives in the hands of others? It is time for us to take responsibility for our health.

Prevention is key to a long, happy and healthy life. Why not be proactively interested in all of the magnificent functions of our body. Why not rely on each other as a community for support and knowledge?  If we take care of ourselves now, we don’t need to worry about reports like this. There is something so powerful about being in tune with your body and being in control of our health.  Try it and see what happens?

Who will you trust? Institutions that are flooded with sickness and disease, or your own brilliant instinct?

Your question: What methods of prevention do you use? (post your comments below)

  1. 'Pondered the same thing yesterday when my landlady mentioned her sister is receiving chemo for colon cancer. My reply was the chemo will destroy her immune system (she is a former nurse of 30 years). She responds with "yes, temporarily" and I thought (shaking head) this is simply untrue. Realizing she was not 'open' to trusting her own thoughts on health as she seems to suffer with the same dogma most allopathic professionals adopt, I mentioned the Gerson therapy nonetheless. Her response was, 'we have GREAT faith in this doctor, he is the same one that treated my breast cancer 5 years ago ..." Sigh. Its sad to know these wonderfully dedicated, caring, individuals have followed these false teachings straight to their own demise.
